WHAT IS A DENTAL ASSISTANT?

A dental assistant is employed in a dental practice. The assistant works directly with the dentist and is credentialed to work in any type of general or specialty dental practice.

WHAT IS A USUAL DAY LIKE FOR A DENTAL ASSISTANT?

A dental assistant is responsible for the disinfection of the treatment room; sterilization and set up of instruments and materials for each procedure; seating patients and reviewing medical and dental history; assist a dentist with all procedures on the patient; and perform procedures directly on a patient, under the supervision of a dentist.

WHAT ARE EXPANDED FUNCTIONS?

Expanded functions are procedures a dental assistant can perform directly on a patient. In order to perform these procedures a dental assistant must be credentialed in each task.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR A DENTAL ASSISTANT TO BE CREDENTIALED IN EVERY EXPANDED FUNCTION FOR THE STATE OF FLORIDA?

Being credentialed in every expanded function for the State of Florida allows a dental assistant to be more valuable to a dentist and helps the dental assistant get a position in a dental practice.

HOW DOES THE DENTAL ASSISTANT STUDENT COMPLETE THE LECTURES, VIDEOS, AND EXAMINATIONS.

These materials are located online through the eLearning portal. Each time the student LOGS IN the student has 24.7. access to all materials. The student will receive a schedule and the faculty will work with the student to complete the content areas, prior to hands on training.

THE ONLINE MATERIALS CONTAIN EXAMINATIONS AFTER EACH TOPIC AND THESE ARE LEARNING TOOLS. WILL I ALWAYS SCORE 100% ON EACH EXAM?

YES. The exams are learning tools and if a student misses a question the student will be redirected to answer the correctly.

WHERE DOES THE HANDS ON TRAINING TAKE PLACE?

We train at Dr. James Willis's Practice in Stuart, Florida.

HOW MANY TRAINING DATES ARE A PART OF THE DENTAL ASSISANT PROGRAM?

There are five training dates. These dates are usually consecutive unless there are holidays

HOW ARE MANIKINS UTILIZED FOR HANDS ON TRAINING?

We utilize manikins to simulate working on a dental patient. To practice placement and taking radiographs we use radiography manikins; we use operative manikins to practice patient/operator positioning; and orthodontic manikins to practice those skills related to this specialty.

ONCE I COMPLETE THE DENTAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM WILL I NEED ANY OTHER TRAINING?

NO.

HOW DO I RESERVE A POSITON IN THE PROGRAM?

The student must pay the tuition to reserve a position in the program. The student should pay tuition and get started with the lectures and exams, at least, two weeks prior to the hands on training date.

DOES THE PROGRAM INTEGRATE WORKING DIRECTLY WITH A DENTIST IN ORDER TO GET CLINICAL EXPERIENCE?

YES. After the second day of hands on training we work with the student to intern with Dr. James Willis. In doing so it helps the student put together the knowledge learned from the online materials with the hands on training to working with a dental and dental patients.

HOW OFTEN IS THE DENTAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM OFFERED FOR STUDENT TRAINING?

The training program begins every other month.

HOW LONG IS THE TRAINING PROGRAM?

The program is less than two months. The student should register for the program, at least, two weeks prior to the first training date. The training dates will be five consecutive Fridays (8:30 - 5:00), unless there are holidays. After the second training date we have the student start interning and working with our dentist, as many hours as possible. During this time we have our student apply for job and send out resume's to dental practices.

CAN I MEET THE FACULTY AND VISIT THE OFFICE WHERE I WILL BE TRAINING?

Absolutely. We would like to meet each student to answer any questions concerning the program and schedule.

WHAT IS THE TOTAL TUITION FOR THE DENTAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM? IN PAYING THE TUITION AND COMPLETING THIS PROGRAN CAN I BEGIN MY NEW CAREER AS AN EXPANDED FUNCTION DENTAL ASSISTANT.

Tuition for the program must be paid to hold a position in the program. In doing so the student will have a schedule for the hands on training dates; access to the online materials; individual hands on training to learn procedures; and working with licensed dentist and dental patients; contact with all faculty; and the expanded function certificates which allows the completer of the program to get a job in a dental practice. The total tuition payment is $3,550.
